The Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon has many very fond memories for me - taking the children there and enjoying the learning to swim and be comfortable with water in a fun environment. So sad to see it now so vulnerable that there has to be a petition to save it - https://www.change.org/p/gll-save-our-oasis

The Oasis Leisure centre is one of the most valued and known places of Swindon since it was built in 1979. With water slides, a wave machine and the rain there is not a local swimming pool like it. It also provides swimming lessons and has brought in many well known names such as comedy acts and musical concerts. In school holidays it is a great local place to take the children all throughout the year.

I am proposing that GLL either give this back to the Swindon Borough Council to manage or another company that will ensure it retains its main attributes and continues to provide a fun place for the community to benefit from.

Just north of the railway too - easily accessed via the old North Wilts Canal subway to the west of the station. See http://new.passenger.chat/map/stationmap.php?tlc=SWI» (Swindon - next trains)&wider=1 -

Background from the Swindon Advertiser

Quote
SWINDON councillors reacted to the shock news of the Oasis Leisure Centre closing permanently.

Borough council leader Coun David Renard said: "This is really disappointing news for the staff and my thoughts are with them and their families at this difficult time.

"I am personally very sad GLL has taken the decision to surrender its lease with Seven Capital on the Oasis, but Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on leisure providers and the leisure industry as a whole.

?We are continuing to work with Seven Capital, as landlord of the Oasis, and GLL, who continue to operate six leisure centres on behalf of the council.?
