Google maps suggests it would take 6hrs 3 min to walk from Reading to Didcot Parkway which is about 10 min quicker than the train would take!

About twenty miles. No fun at all at night, with snow forecast.  But on a fine day there's a choice of pleasant routes. Some years ago I did walk from Tilehurst to Didcot, using hardly any surfaced roads. The first mile was on pavements, then down to Tidmarsh, several hundred yards on the pavement through the village, then west to Bradfield and north to Blewbury.

I took the train back!
