Not so much "who's who", but "what's what".  The top of our acronyms page has a dated (really dated!) list of locomotive and multiple unit classes and as a starter I am looking to get a complete list of units that have been or are in regular passenger service across "our" area in the last 20 years.

Multiple unit trains in use in the Thames Valley, South West and South Wales
from 2000 to date (March 2021)


C - Chiltern franchises
G - GWR (Great Western Railway)
H - Heathrow Express
S - South Western
W - South Wales
X - Cross Country
Upper case - in service or in service "soon"
Lower case - no longer in service

In bold - the trains you might catch for a journey with GWR later this year

Chiltern are currently using four Class 172s.

Did Wales actually have any 150/1s or did they just appear on services from Bristol

Not those ones, the 170s that were transferred from TPE (Trans Pennine Express) were reclassified.  The 172s were left as they were - due to the different type of transmission IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly).

Noted to add 172 (current Chiltern) and to remove 150/1 from (ever) being run by the Welsh franchise.  Both agreed. Tnx.
