Isn't 80 days a bit rushed?   Don't I remember Phineas Fogg hurrying around and thinking he had failed until he realised he had gained a day during his circumnavigation?  P&O take 99 days for a similar trip.  Does "Delay Repay" apply if you arrive back more than 15 minutes late?

"Borealis was built as MS Rotterdam for the Holland America Line, for which she sailed for 22 years. In 2020, the ship was sold to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, who renamed her Borealis."  The very first cruise Lisa and I did - the "Perl Whirl" was on the Volendam in 2000.

If we were to allow a free hand in the rules in terms of how to cross the Atlantic and Pacific, then planning the rest of that trip by public transport is always a fascinating endeavour.

Surely that depends whether it is sold as a form of transport (hard to do with destination=origin?) or a cruise. In the latter case you could claim compensation if it got back too early as well as very late.

The Seat 61 website gives quite a bit on the way to do it. I particularly like London to Tokyo overland/sea.

I am reminded of "Race Across the World" - first series London to Singapore and I with a good friend here so nearly applied to take part in the second series.  I was however very concerned with my stamina which is not what it used to be and very relieved in the end; turned out to be Mexico City to Ushuaia - fascinating place all along the way, but it turned into a test of endurance in long distance overnight coaches.  Now, I don't mind buses and coaches; can be sensible to use but in this case they became a gruelling nonsense.

Everyone has certain iconic destinations that are always on pretty much every list. A variation of the theme could be to plan an itinerary that only takes in those destinations that have a reasonable population but always seem to be missed out of "classic world tours"...

In reverse this could be the Sydney resident who says - "I wonder what Bridgwater is like?"

Well ... I have had the pleasure of travelling to ... Al Khobar, Arborga, Ardvarsar, Ashby be la Zouch, Coatbridge, Guadelajara, Horten, La Jolla, Livingston, Lublijana, Manasas, Minneapolis, Motherwell, Poughkeepsie, Sittingbourne, Troy and Wrexham ... and every one a different experience off the main tourist trail.

Our honeymoon in 1995 was around the world in 3 weeks, via Bali, Queensland, New Zealand, Fiji and California. Longest stop anywhere was 6 days (Fiji).

Sounds a bit crazy thinking back to it now, but we were young and it was a great adventure.

About 48hrs (give or take) in the air - all in economy - and I remember the novelty that the last flight (LAX-LHR) was on a then brand-new Virgin 747-400 that had (very basic) seatback TV's!

I've had the misfortune to live in Bridgwater. I'd tell them to avoid. Best thing that ever happened was the M5 - you can speed past.

There's a reason the seagulls fly upside down over Bridgwater. It's not worth sh***ing on!
