Picked this up in the finer print on Journey Check - under Alterations to services between London Paddington and Hereford via Oxford where they're suggesting Avanti West Coast to Birmingham then West Midlands Trains to the Worcester / Hereford area.

London Underground are conveying passengers between London Paddington and London Euston via London Marylebone in both directions until further notice.

Good - but the "via Marylebone" struck me as an odd stipulation.   Much better direct on the Hammersmith and City to Euston Square?   Actually I think there's a wider dispensation on place as reading up the same report, I note

London Underground will accept GWR (Great Western Railway) tickets for travel between London train terminals.

Which suggests my good friend the 205 bus is also available.

[context footnote for the historian in later years] - above written during the period when the IETs (Intercity Express Train) were almost all out of service ... but I do wonder whether there should be an automatic any-sensible-route rule rather than an any-permitted-route across public transport.   Ah - dreams of Utopia.

Ah - dreams of Utopia.

They've already started designing the replacement IET (Intercity Express Train) trains - Codename "broadgage 1"...

I have been watching The Damned United, which is a lesson relevant for today.

That "via Marylebone" stipulation is just poorly worded, probably an attempt at shorthand to say that Marylebone is closer. LU has no such restriction on how you get between Paddington and Euston, and of course in most cases anyone seeing that there is disruption won't even go to Paddington first, but will head straight for Euston or Marylebone from their starting point.

That Journey Check website incidentally looks useful but is oddly set up.  There is no obvious way to switch from one TOC (Train Operating Company) to another other than guessing the bit of the address after the "/", and the home page of is Forbidden.
