According to usually reliable sources, the new body to oversee Britain's railways will be called... Great British Railways! What do members think of this name?

Designed both to appeal to the nostalgia of the "good old" BR (British Rail(ways)) days, and towards the Brave New Brexit Era.

Perhaps after 17 years it will change from Great British Railway to GB (Great Britain) Rail, in the same way British Railways became British Rail?  Wink

Is the 'Great' an adjective or part of a Proper Noun ?

If the former, it sounds more like a TV programme hosted by Michael Portillo; If the latter, it should be "Great Britain's Railways".

Completely naff name if you ask me.

Just think how much worse it could get, especially if left to pressure from the press or the commentariat.

Anyone for UKRail? (pronounced Yukrail, obviously).
Or Brailways? (Though that works best if it coincides with all eyesight requirements for drivers being dropped.)
YouTrain? (Might be confused with Peloton, though.)

In the expectation of rotten tomatoes and bad eggs.

I think Boris & Co have largely devalued the name Great Britain, so I am not enthused by the prospect of Great British  anything. But there again I am almost certainly a minority faction.

Just be done with it and call it British Rail!

Andrew Haines has already reintroduces Regions ................ British Railways or British Rail might be a bit unpalatable for the Government; Great Britain Railways fits in with the current Government Trumpisum of make Britain Grate again and their desire to use the Great Britain branding where ever possible

We will have Great Britain Railways this service is operated by our friends in the EU» (European Union - about) ...............  Abellio, Arriva, Trenitalia  Grin  Grin

British Rail will do me fine.  I'm fairly certain that most people will start shortening Great British Railways to British Rail soon enough anyway so why not call it so from the off and save on reprinting all that headed stationery?

Well at least they don’t need to come up with a new logo!

Here you go:

Here's a more "Great British" version of the BR (British Rail(ways)) logo for you :

Or maybe this as a wildcard:

My immediate thought was "Is that a new programme with Michael Portillo?"
