Question: It looks like the new body to administer rail will be called 'Great British Railways'. What do members think of this name?  (Voting closed: June 01, 2021, 13:18:45)
I think it's a great name! - 1 (3.7%)
I don't care what they call it as long as it improves things - 11 (40.7%)
It sounds like a 19th Century name for a 21st Century railway - 15 (55.6%)

The Conservative-Brexit-UKIP parties and associated media have done such a thorough job in appropriating the expressions Great Britain/Great British, with all the deliberate play on the meaning of 'great', that these expressions have been reduced to right-wing slogans for me now. 'British', neutral and apolitical without the great, is fine.

Yes AIUI▸ (as I understand it) Great Britain originally meant including Scotland.

There's a serious rail-related point there of course - If the new Network Rail-created and controlled SRA» (Strategic Rail Authority - about) Mark 2 puppet Great British Railways is responsible for dishing out concessions, and can intervene to "change timetables and even out services", will they be able to do this with ScotRail and Transport for Wales? After all, both Scotland and Wales are still allegedly part of "Great Britain".

And if "Great British Railways" wont be able to intervene in that way, then shouldn't a name variant of "English" be used instead?

I feel Great or Greater London Railways would be more appropriate if Scotland and Wales aren’t included,, as that’s the only place in England according to the government and media.
