Most of the proposed station names are very working-title-ish – I hope they're replaced with names that say where they actually are:
Newport Road (Cardiff) Roath / Y Rhath
Cardiff Parkway St Mellon's / Llaneirwg
Newport West Tredegar Park / Parc Tredegar
Newport East Somerton
Llanwern, and
Magor.

Somerton might be confusing, especially as there is a proposal (vaguely at least) for a station at Somerton in Somerset.

Yes ... though there are a number of repeated names on the network already:
Brampton, Charing Cross, Earlswood, Garston, Gillingham, Hope, London Road, Millbrook, Newport, Queen's Park, Rainham, Reedham, St Margaret's, Swinton, Waterloo

There's even one case of three stations with the same name!

My Mum confused the ticket seller at Dartford way back in 1970 when she asked for a ticket to Stroud and was sold one to Strood!

Ah yes ... did I ever tell you about the young lady visiting me from the USA ... got the train and changed at Leamington Spa for Hatton. Station staff mis-heard her and through she said Brighton ... and she waited for 3 hours for 1S76 while the local train pootled in and out of the bay.

There's even one case of three stations with the same name!

Can anyone identify this?

Gillingham - but as most of you know, different pronunciations for both.

Perhaps the new regime of transparency and helpfulness to customers will provide phonetic station signs to help?

Did the Wales & West service to Waterloo ever call at the Hampshire one? If it did, there will have been a time when all three had direct train services from Cardiff Central.
