Do I understand this correctly ??

https://www.gwr.com/help-and-support/changing-your-ticket?utm_source=Nevertransacted&utm_medium=email&utm_term=find_out_more&utm_content=EB1153996&utm_campaign=GWR_BOOK_WITH_CONFIDENCE_ENG_JUNE_21

Does this really mean that if buy Advance tickets and if I cannot travel (for whatever reason) then I can get a "full value" refund - as a 12 month validity voucher ??

Doesn't it mean that if you can't travel on your advance ticket and pay the difference to upgrade to a flexible ticket, but aren't sure what day you'll be travelling on, then vouchers can be issued so you can exchange them for that flexible ticket when you know when you'll be travelling?

Yes it does - not cash refund on Advance tickets, but get the value as a credit for further travel.

That is excellent news !  My wife and I were planning on a trip "oop North" later in the year, estimated ticket outlay (mostly Advance) around £300. With still some uncertainty over Covid going to be around for a while we can now start thinking about booking with a little more confidence. I normally book through the old GWR (Great Western Railway) website anyway.

Reading that guidance again, it is not clear whether taking the credit mrans that there would be an admin fee deducted from the value of each ticket. Best to clarify with GWR (Great Western Railway)

No admin fee if you do it 6pm the day before the ticket has been booked for is how I read it. It is spelt out more clearly on the Refund Claim Form:

Also under our new “Book with Confidence” policy, we appreciate that from time to time your plans may change and you may not necessarily know when your new travel dates are. In this case, as long as you notify us before 18:00 on the day before travel we will allow you to cancel your journey and to receive an eVoucher (eRTV) for the full value of your ticket, which will be valid for use for 12 months.

Within the form is an option for "Cancel Journey - Exchange for eVoucher". The process though seems needlessly complicated for a ticket issued online.

Not only the process ! The explanation of which tickets are refundable and the cost of doing so is cumbersome to say the least - and plain contradictory in places !

The new concession description has been bolted on in a few places in the website but not everywhere. Maybe because it is temporary and expected to be removed in due course.

The system works well ! I applied for a refund last weekend, the e-voucher arrived this evening. Have added it to my GWR (Great Western Railway) account. How do we persuade them to keep this idea permanently ?
