BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) reporting large fire at railway arches. This photo suggests Infoman is right to advise keeping clear:

Certainly a major fire, with several injuries but fortunately no loss of life.
Hopefully an accident and nothing more sinister.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

I trust that the Victorian brickwork of the viaduct will have withstood the fire.

The modern concrete building in the foreground - the one being demolished - was the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre.  I have nostalgic memories of walking through it every day in 1970 on my commute to work.  It was so new, now so gone.

Would appear it was a car repair / MOT business involved.

The lines reopened this morning after a huge effort by multi agency workers to inspect and repair. Currently electrical supply the station not finished.
