................am I told there is a connection time of 1h 16m when there is a train to WMN^» (Warminster - next trains) every hour ? If the boat is on time there is a train at 1824 (there was last night and tonight, anyway) - a 16m connection time is most reasonable. I looked at a number of boat timings and they all give the same 1h 16m time.  Unless, of course, the boat is always so late that they think that this method gives a more realistic time of arriving at WMN !  Am I missing the b*****n' obvious ?

I have wondered that.  Apart from anything else the return sailing leaves at XX.15 past the hour so even if you were last off you’d still make the train.

Having said that, the last time I came through Portsmouth the onward train to Westbury was cancelled and I ended up going via Basingstoke and Reading.

And I suspect that means that only trains timed to arrive 15 + 5 = 20 minutes before the ferry leaves will be offered on journey planners.

I also suspect that the same connection time from A to B mode and B to A mode is used in the railway's planners ... so the ferry arriving at 18:07 won't show any onward connections until a train at 18:27.    Ergo - does not connect with 18:24.

If anyone knows better, please correct me.

Suspect your hypothesis is correct.

If you can find a printed timetable, they should show connection times at every station that is not a ‘standard’ connection time (5 mins?)

It wouldn’t surprise me if the P/Harbour time is at peast as you suggest, maybe longer.

Ahead of you on that, Chris, but it showed PMH without extra adornment - hence the 5 minutes train-to-train default which I added to the 15 minute train-to-boat.    I can't think of any train-to-train connections that would be made there anyway!

The 15 min boat check-in applies in both directions, so the 20 min "rule" should equally apply at Ryde Pier Head ............but the majority of connections give 12 mins between the ferry's arrival time and the departure of the "train". (XX37 and XX49)
