That signalling cable doesn’t look too clever. Some comments about a kettle having passed through on its way to Swanage. This one perhaps?

From SWR» (South Western Railway - about) Journeycheck:
Quote
Due to a fire next to the track between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth all lines are blocked.
What's Going On:
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
What We're Doing About It:
We have been informed of multiple fires next to the track between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth. Whilst the fire brigade work to tackle this issue, the power to all lines in the area will need to be switched off. This means that all lines are currently blocked.

Update the line has reopened:
Quote
Following a fire next to the track between Southampton Central and Bournemouth all lines have now reopened.

A kettle, 44781, did go to Swanage today but has been left behind with the return journey having just left Swanage hauled by a 47. Probably for the best.

I don’t think that helps much as it seems they’re completely unrelated, either technically or geographically.

Agreed.  We could add a reference in this thread to the other one which is in the Portsmouth to Cardiff board having been a notable disruption to that service ... that reference would be http://www.passenger.chat/28834
