    8/50

  • Driven a train - Many years ago on an industrial railway
  • Left the station in Taunton
  • Travelled on a Groupsave ticket - Yes Bedwyn to Paddington
  • Visited Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - not by train
  • Travelled through the Channel Tunnel - many times
  • Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy - most memorably I got off the 18.30 Paddington to Swansea on Friday 8th September 1995 as it was too crowded - A very good decision even if the next train only got me home in the early hours of the following morning!
  • Used a rover or ranger ticket  - not recently but many years ago
  • Changed trains at Westbury

There's a few missing from the list.

Alighted at Camborne on a Wednesday
Made a lateral shift and parallel move to reach Mornington Crescent
Caught a witching hour train to the Goober State

But train don't stop ....

I decided to stop at 50 rather than go on to 60, 75, 80 or even 100.

I must get out more - only 11 - one doubles up I think!.

I have had curry on a train - in India.

Driven a train (up to 6 thanks to my wife buying me Footex days three times as presents (one involving two locomotives), my mother in law doing so once and I once paid £5 to drive a diesel shunter up and down a platform at Kingswear.  I can tell you that the regulator on Tornado is much less pleasant to use than the one on a (real) Castle!

Stood on a 153 between Sowton and Digby and Exeter Central around 10 years ago

Helping other passengers with luggage is a regular part of life on the North Downs Line, with all the Gatwick traffic

Easements and and longer route to avoid rail replacement bus - using the Basingstoke - Woking - Guildford zigzag when the North Downs has been closed.

Overslept after boozy evening early in 1986 and slept in a waiting room in Swindon

Let a busy train go because it was too full - on a few occasions

Channel Tunnel - several times, as train passenger and with car, and as coach passenger on Shuttle - looking forward to being able to do it again soon

DLR (Docklands Light Railway) - about 4 times

Got on or off a train at Coombe Junction - No, but I have changed trains at Bourne End

Hmm .. that looks like a supermarket substitution - "Sorry - no Blueberry Cheesecake, so we have substituted Stilton Blue Cheese".   Good try ;-)

Dined in a Restaurant Car
- a few times, prior to 1984, Newcastle to Kings Cross, back then allowed in the restaurant on a standard fare, so effectively first class travel for the price of a meal.
Travelled on a line that was part of the main network and is now closed
- Alnwick branch, and Tyneside riverside loop, and Tyne Dock to South Shields via the old BR (British Rail(ways)) route nearer the river. I won’t count the parts of the Tyneside system that were converted to Metro as they’re mostly still there and in use.
Driven a train
- twice (although under extremely close supervision) once in Alnwick goods yard, and later on a works train lifting the Alnwick branch.
Been to Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station
- just because it’s there, like Everest.
"Bought" a zero cost excess
- not quite, but successfully negotiated my way out of an attempt to charge a suspect excess (via Westbury!)
Travelled on the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry
- once just to tick it off.
Crossed the Atlantic by ship
- 3 return trips (if you count getting to Antigua via the South Atlantic and returning direct).
Helped a fellow passenger lift their luggage on or off a train
- yes a couple of times
Overslept your station
- aiming for Newcastle, had to overnight in Morpeth. Got very early bus back.
Travelled through the Channel Tunnel
- two return trips, one on the first day at St Pancras
Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy
- on LU a few times
Used a rover or ranger ticket
- a few, but a highlight was using a bus red rover on the tube all day - in late sixties I think.
Changed trains at Westbury
- a few times en route to/from Plymouth but not since about 1982
Travelled on the DLR (Docklands Light Railway)
- many times
