Looking at the route that is under going engineering works in the Cheltenham/Worcester area on the weekend of 12/13 October 2024 with bus/coach replacements

If you started your journey from BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI)) or BP» (Beyond Petroleum (Former name - British Petroleum) - home page),you could travel via Newport Hereford Worcester and onto the North East.

Obviously if you were traveling to Crewe and the North West, better to stay on the train from Hereford to Crewe.

Newport - Chester or Crewe was plagued by short notice** 2 carriage substituting for longer services, but hopefully those days are past. Also, Network Rail have been doing work to accelerate line speeds - that might not yet be reflected in the timetable perhaps.

** No notice. On the platform at Chester Station a couple of years back, and ten minutes before it was due, I asked TfW's social media if the Cardiff train was loco and coaches. Answer, yes. Round the bend came a 2 car 153, already full and standing. Illness ensued.
