From on The Wight

Quote
The next stage of Wightlink £1.5million investment in the FastCat foot passenger route between Portsmouth Harbour and Ryde Pier Head starts on Wednesday 5th January 2022.

The timetable will stay the same, but there will be changes to the way customers board the catamarans in Portsmouth for the next three months, because of major structural repairs and maintenance at the terminal.

Alternative outdoor route
Customers will be led by members of Wightlink staff through the gates near Platform 5 of Portsmouth Harbour railway station to reach the berth by an alternative outdoor route. The current boarding ramp will be closed.

Because there are stairs on the alternative outdoor route, no prams, wheelchairs or mobility scooters etc will be able to use the FastCats during this phase of the works. These customers are advised to travel by Wightlink’s car ferries from Gunwharf Road instead. After this phase of the work, terminal access will return to normal for everyone in early spring.

Are transfer facilities being provided to link trains at Portsmouth Harbour to Gunwharf Road, and from Fishbourne to the trains in Ryde?

One would hope Wightlink provide some sort of transport for the less able. The Equality Act may have something to say if they don't.

I recently used the car ferry from East Cowes to Southampton as a foot passenger. Due to improvement works at the usual Red Funnel terminal in Southampton the ferry was using an alternative berth deep in the dock complex. Transport out of the docks to the Red Funnel terminal was provided for all foot passengers.
