The following were diverted via Melksham

14:15 Penzance to London Paddington
17:36 London Paddington to Plymouth

Several others were planned to be diverted but at the last moment (and after a brief delay at Reading for the 18:04) ran via Newbury as booked.

For the completion of records - all trains cancelled yesterday due to ASLEF» (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen - about) strike action.  Typically this thread reports only on changes made on the day, but we must remember that passengers are equally unable to use trains removed from the timetable a week ahead as they are trains removed from the timetable an hour ahead!

This morning, the direct train to Weymouth no longer goes to Weymouth:

Quote
11:41 Swindon to Weymouth due 14:00

11:41 Swindon to Weymouth due 14:00 will be terminated at Westbury.
It will no longer call at Frome, Bruton, Castle Cary, Yeovil Pen Mill, Thornford, Yetminster, Chetnole, Maiden Newton, Dorchester West, Upwey and Weymouth.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

And the next one ...

Quote
13:41 Swindon to Weymouth due 15:51
13:41 Swindon to Weymouth due 15:51 has been delayed at Swindon and is now 10 minutes late.

This is due to the train departing late to maintain customer connections.

It does make common sense to maintain connections - especially onto infrequent services

Oh dear - isn't the 07:37 (07:53 off Melksham) one of the "priority trains" only cancelled as a last resort?  Never mind - next train at 10:02 and I'm sure employers won't mind their staff being late ...
