Cancelled today 16.12.2022 - (in the passenger's view) the following services:
05:17, 07:06(1), 07:36, 09:46, 12:17, 14:18, 16:25, 18:34 and 20:06(1) from Westbury to Swindon
06:11(1), 08:45, 11:05, 13:15, 15:14, 17:36, 18:52(1) and 20:45 Swindon to Westbury
(1) - service schedule to run beyond Westbury / Swindon, cancelled throughout

No rail replacement buses or taxis provided via Melksham.   Middle of the day travel from Westbury / Trowbridge to / from Chippenham / Swindon possible via Bath Spa, changing there and with much extended journey times.

Sarcastic "Thank You" to the rail industry (companies and staff representatives) and government for yet another day of shatting on your customers. Sympathy for you all is limited, and damage deep; you are driving away a great deal of optional traffic, and that which is not optional - or wasn't - is finding alternatives.

Your final sentence is absolutely the most on point - in far more cases than ever before, both business and leisure, those alternatives now exist and are being utilised.

For the record, yesterday and today are strike days when many other areas have no services. Is Melksham any worse of than, say, Yeovil

On strike days, there are indeed many other zero service stations.   Taking the whole of this first week of the new timetable though ...

Train Record - Swindon to Westury service - first full week of new timetable (11th to 17th December 2022)
with an assumption that nothing runs for the rest of today

116 trains timetabled
68 failed to run on industrial action days
23 failed to run for other reasons
just 25 ran (that's 22% of what GWR (Great Western Railway) are contracted to provide

I don't think you'll find any other GWR line / significant station with a record like that.
You mention Yeovil  - I wonder what the figures are there for the week?

I am looking for someone who is looking carpooling from trowbridge to Melksham Monday to Friday, someone who leaves around 9am from melksham and returns around 6pm from Trowbridge.  I am happy to divide the fuel cost. Please let me know if you know someone who can help.
