If it's any indication of anything - today the 2022 thread on this subject has exceeded the number of pages used for 2021.

New Year's resolution for GWR (Great Western Railway) - reverse that trend.

Christmas Eve - services typically end a little early, but this evening they end earlier than ususal even for Christmas Eve. Cancelled today (?) 24.12.2022 - (in the passenger's view) the following services:
16:36 and 18:35 from Westbury to Swindon
17:35, 19:35 and 21:07 Swindon to Westbury

Thanks to Chris Rea, for his words on finishing work at 5 p.m. today.  No trains, so

Quote
I'm driving home for Christmas
Oh, I can't wait to see those faces
I'm driving home for Christmas, yea
Well I'm moving down that line
And it's been so long
But I will be there
I sing this song
To pass the time away
Driving in my car
Driving home for Christmas

and

Quote
I take a look at the driver next to me
He's just the same
He's driving home, driving home
Driving home for Christmas
which is an excellent argument for a working mass transit system at this time of year when lots of people are moving around

Here are some more lyrics from Bruvver Lynch, which perhaps haven't aged quite so well, but are also pertinent in the context........

“There is no good time to have a strike. We have left the Christmas period strike-free deliberately”

First three trains, Westbury to Swindon, not running
First two trains Swindon to Westbury not running
So first train 09:46 from Westbury and 11:05 from Swindon.

For a bank a bank holiday, fair enough (and normal) for the first trip not to run, but the 07:35 from Westbury and the 08:44 from Swindon should be running.

Given the first train through Swindon on any route isn’t until 10:16 perhaps it is not surprising those pair didn’t run.

Indeed. We can assign the failure to run the 05:17 and 07:05 from Westbury and the 06:11 from Swindon to it being a Bank Holiday.  But it remains a disappointment and a failure of provision by the rail industry (management, unions, DfT» (Department for Transport - about)) to run the 07:35 and 08:44

Following up on another thread, first possible London arrivals from Swindon, then, about 11:30 - skuttles the day-at-the-sales opportunities because half the day will be gone by the time you get to Oxford Street!

NOT another TransWilts failure - rather, perhaps something which rather confirms that the rail industry would have been incapable of starting with the 07:35 as is the precedent for a bank holiday.   A number of other services like this:

Quote
09:18 London Paddington to Swansea due 12:31
09:18 London Paddington to Swansea due 12:31 will no longer call at Reading, Swindon, Patchway and Newport South Wales.

It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 91 minutes late.
This is due to engineering works not being finished on time.

That's utter b*ll*cks. Overtime plus Rest Day working ban....
