Sad news - Jo Hoare, member of our moderator team, our treasurer, and a treasure, passed away on 11th December last, just a couple of weeks after what proved to be her final visit to the Coffee Shop. Early October, she wrote Just a quick update from me. I'm currently not that well but have been assured by the professor overseeing my care that I am cureable at least that is what he's aiming for.. Treatment for 5 weeks from Oct 20th then we'll see ... but alas it seems that the aim was not reached. Jo spent 85 days online with us ... posted over 2,800 times and became such a friend here over 14 years as a member then one of our moderator team. And yet as is so often the case with members here, personal and forum lives didn't overlap to any great extent and although I knew Jo was very ill, I only picked up news of her passing today. Rest in Peace, Jo. You will be missed - and as your friends Facebook page shows, yo will be missed in your other spheres as well as here at the Coffee Shop In memory of Jo - 22 Nov 1965 - 11 Dec 2021. |

Oh my. That's such sad news. Brought a tear to the eye. A lovely person I had the pleasure of meeting on a couple of occasions. Despite barely knowing me in my early days on the forum she helped me out with a personal matter. Rest in peace Jo.  |

Although I never met Jo in person, she was very much a major part of the forum in my early days. My thoughts are with her family at this sad time. RIP Jo

Oh, bless her. Jo was so lovely, and so funny, and so clever too. We only met a couple of times but she had that knack of making you feel like you'd made a friend for life. And life for the rest of us will be the poorer without her. Rest in Peace, Jo. x

I have just posted the following on Jo's Facebook timeline for her friends. "Click on the picture" offered at the end of the comment brings readers to this thread. I'm writing to express my shock at the news of Jo's passing, as a member of and representing the online "Great Western Coffee Shop Forum", where Jo was member for many years, a valued voice, a signicant contributor, a moderator, our treasurer and indeed a treasure. She wrote to our team "behind the counter" last autumn, prior to her treatment and we looked forward though (I will admit without certainty) to seeing her in the New Year; alas, that was not to be - Rest in Peace, Jo.
It's a feature of online groups and clubs that there is very limited interaction between members there and others who feature in a person's real life. The individual, as in Jo's case, shines through in both but the two sectors don't know of each other. So please forgive me and others for not being with you the other day and sharing your loss. If you (friends of Jo) wish to 'read in' further from our members, please click on the picture, and we would be happy, too, to share our inner teams thoughts - just ask. -- Graham. |

It is nearly six months since Jo died but her memory lives on. We have been made aware that some of her friends and family are taking part in a marathon next month to raise money for Macmillan Cancer care support.
