The lost Berkshire railway station that lasted 14 months

I can't recall reading about this halt before.

A quick look in the papers comes up with just one hit, from the Windsor and Eton Express 03 February 1912. But that isn't about Chalvey Halt: the headline is "A New rail Car" and it describes a trial of electric transmission. "Its power is generated and applied in a manner novel for this class of vehicle. The power is generated by a 4-cyclinder petrol engine, but instead of this being geared direct to the shafts, it is connected with a dynamo. The current thus generated is utilised to drive two motors, one geared onto each shaft, with the result that the somewhat complicated mechanism of clutch and gear box is done away with."

At the end comes "If they are satisfactory, we trust that the possibilities of a Rail Car Service may bring into existence the Chalvey Halt, for which the Great Western Company has been several times petitioned."

"Chalvey Station" got a lot more mentions in the papers, but almost all were for the pumping station or the wireless station (a landmark visible from the railway). But there was this from the South Bucks Standard 05 November 1897, in a report of the Upton-cum-Chalvey parish council:
The proposed Chalvey Station Committee reported:- "Your Committee have considered and agreed upon the draft of a letter to be sent to the Great Western Railway Company, asking that Company's consideration of the desirability of providing a station near the railway bridge in the Chalvey-road, and pointing out the great inconvenience it would be to the residents there."
(Moved and adopted.)

That makes it hard to know whether they were in favour or not, doesn't it? Another report from that year says that the first petition was many years earlier, but that the population of the parish had very much increased since then.

Thanks for the link. however it doesn't answer the question as to what side of the bridge the halt was situated.

Slough and Windsor Railway have a line drawing of the halt which suggests it was the Windsor side. On the left of the photo if it was taken looking West.

I used to live in one of the maisonettes in Ragstone opposite the railway and assummed the halt would have been opposite us.

Any thought on exact location?
