The box in the top right-hand corner of the Coffee Shop home page says:

"No 'On This Day' events reported for 4th Jul"

I always suspected that the Americans were making a lot of fuss about nothing Grin

I can understand Americans celebrating, but this date should not in my view by a celebration in the UK^▸ . Put bluntly, the colonies won and we lost.

We should celebrate victories such as the world wars, and the Falklands war.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU^▸ is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

4th July is an interesting day in our household (*), bearing in mind we're an international couple one United States by birth and one born in England. Having seen and heard about some of the goings on in the USA, especially over the past few years, perhaps there should be a degree of celebration that we don't have what I see as some of their problems.

Independence Day was 4th July 1776 and at that time there was little or know public transport, so not something even with corollaries that relate to our forum?

(*) Also made interesting today by trips to the Vets and the Optitians, and the preps I'm doing for a meeting tonight where I'm coming under fire for achieving very little as a councillor over the year; that's true enough in some areas, but there's a limit as to what one individual can change where the changes need to be seen as coming from the blocks (if successful).
