Apologies for being ultra-parochial but today is a great day at Liskeard Station, the station cafe has reopened, now run by the lovely ladies from the Bodmin and Wenford. So now a decent coffee and a good bacon bap can be purchased to tide one over on a journey to Paddington until the slow slow IET (Intercity Express Train) trolley service gets to you.( Often an hour or more, and of course when it does, there is no bacon baps!!)

Just passed through Liskeard, and, indeed, there was an announcement that the trolley's disappearing for the foreseeable as there's a crew change at Plymouth.

*Slips into a reverie inspired by recollections of the pre-2015 07:30 Paddington to Penzance via Bristol, departing Bath Spa just before 9, which for some time fairly reliably had a 'Travelling chef' on board to Exeter*

*Snaps back to reality* Probably best to avoid the cappucino from the trolley as the ingredients provided don't give the staff much to work with. Also, probably best for the railway to avoid referring to inclusive pricing for a coffee and a biscuit as a 'Meal deal'.

On Saturday, the 07:38 from Bristol to Penzance was flagged as having no catering on board. At the cornish pasty place in the underpass at Bristol, the price of a coffee + bacon roll turned out to be something like £3:19. I asked if I'd been undercharged, it emerged that they were running a deal for for a coffee and bacon sandwich together.

On to the train with those, and found that, after all, there were catering staff aboard. Felt rather sorry for them for the first hour, as they were now faced with the task of selling drinks to passengers who'd all made their own provision - and on a very sparsely populated train.

They now do a 'coffee bag' coffee that is rather good.....and a kitkat/twix/etc is only another 50p....for once, pretty good value I thought at around £3 all in.
