Does anyone know what GWR (Great Western Railway) have been doing so far with regards to Advance tickets that cannot be used on strike days ? I have friends visiting from the USA next month, they are staying in London and are coming down by train for a day visit. They have already bought Advance tickets for the day concerned. If that day turns out to be a strike day - what are their options ? Can they just use those tickets on a non-strike day ? Can they get a full refund ? an e voucher is obviously of no use to them.

Can I piggyback a similar question I was going to ask as well. If you buy a ranger or rover ticket which you then find includes a strike day, can the ticket usage be extended to cover an extra day to compensate for the lost day?

IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly) on previous strike days, ALL ticket types dated for a strike day could be used over a number of days around that day. TOC (Train Operating Company) websites should have the detail, such as gwr.com.

Yes - or you can apply for a refund for unused days if you are unable to extend.
