The super off peak fare from Westbury to London is £35.70 using the direct route via Newbury. But on Saturday, the railway operators find themselves incapable of running a service from Westbury to London via Newbury and are only providing trains via Swindon which they are offering only at a higher super off peak fare of £38.70.

Is it right that GWR (Great Western Railway) are charging a higher fare when they are failing to provide the service that they're supposed to?  At the very least, should they not be offering tickets via the slower / longer route at the same price as on the route they aren't serving on the Saturday even though it's in their contract to do so?

Outside of contract requirements owing to strike action.

BUT, and it's a BIG but, yes, they should. Unfortunately, Jane Jones (who can be relied on to get things done) is on leave, and therefore unavailable. I'll try Richard Rowland instead.
