I prefer the Michael Flanders comment in the introduction to "The Slow Train". "If God had intended us to fly, he would never have given us the railways".

Or the quote from a science fiction novel, set on a world inhabited by intelligent avians "If God had intended that we use flying machines, then He would not have given us wings"

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Done! I look forward to the introduction of the "sturdy donkey" as a unit of weight.

How many of those to an “Olympic swimming pool”  "jumbo jet" ?

Are we still talking about 220 lb weight? Surely that is a windle - the traders' measure of corn in Preston only 100 years ago (see Lord Clinton in the House of Lords introducing the second reading of the Corn Sales Bill in 1921).
I'd like to see the return of the Welsh hobbit.

Tangentially linked to public transport passengers' weight.

There's a municipality in Romania that lets you ride the bus for free if you do 20 squats first. You do your squats  in front of a specially adapted ticket machine. It counts them before issuing your bus ticket.

Excellent idea. Although my knee would probably give out before I got into double figures.

Perhaps Bristol could introduce such a scheme for short journeys. A 'Three Stop Squat' ticket perhaps? Tongue

Do you do it while the bus is underway, or is there time is the schedule in case a fit party gets on board and they all want a free ride?

What stops urchins from doing the squats and selling the free bus tickets for half the fare otherwise payable.

I don't like the idea of people doing the squats at a bus stop. Rather unhygienic.
