Estimates of station usage stats - 2021/2 - were due for publication last Thursday according to the ORR» (Office of Rail and Road formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about).  Has anyone seen these stats yet?  What will/do they actually tell us, bearing in mind that we are n really fast-changing times and they'll cover a period between 20 and 8 months ago.

A surprising spread between stats for passenger flows that have recovered well and those that have not.

Less of a topical issue: stations identified as possibly skewed by split ticketing potential caught my eye.

Something that would be good to see would be flows originating at a particular station versus inward bound flows.

Plenty of local and national media reports detailing high and low usage stations. So they must be available now.

I've updated my station usage map to include the new data (which run to March 2022)

https://empslocal.ex.ac.uk/people/staff/tej202/stations.htm (do let me know of any bugs)

It's interesting to see which stations had already seen a reasonable post-covid bounceback by March 2022 (e.g. Devon and Cornwall generally).

OK - stats for the South West, data for 1997, 2012, 2020, 2021 and 2022

The three last columns are percentages
- 2022 traffic as a percentage of 1997 traffic, to give the longest term view available
- 2022 traffic as a percentage of 2012 traffic, to give a view of where we stand compared to a decade ago
- 2022 traffic as a percentage of 2020 traffic, to give a view of post-covid recovery
Where passenger numbers are tiny, the percentages are of very limited statistical use, and there are some special cases such as Lelant 'Central' v Lelant Saltings

I find the figures for my own local area (SWR» (South Western Railway - about) in East Devon) very encouraging considering that the service has been drastically reduced for much of the recent times  - particularly Pinhoe [a little local publicity and encouragement helps  Grin ]

A surprising spread between stats for passenger flows that have recovered well and those that have not.

Less of a topical issue: stations identified as possibly skewed by split ticketing potential caught my eye.

Something that would be good to see would be flows originating at a particular station versus inward bound flows.

Mark

I'd suggest that the numbers at these stations have probably fallen off a cliff as they are mostly commuter stations/destinations, and thus more affected by the reduction in people travelling daily for work.

It would be really interesting to the see the corresponding revenue, and more significantly profit details extrapolated from the ORR» (Office of Rail and Road formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about) figures - are these available?

These would give a good indication of the extent of any recovery where it really counts.
