NOT another TransWilts failure - rather, perhaps something which rather confirms that the rail industry would have been incapable of starting with the 07:35 as is the precedent for a bank holiday.   A number of other services like this:

Quote
09:18 London Paddington to Swansea due 12:31
09:18 London Paddington to Swansea due 12:31 will no longer call at Reading, Swindon, Patchway and Newport South Wales.

It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 91 minutes late.
This is due to engineering works not being finished on time.

Over running engineering work prevented sets leaving North Pole depot.

06:35 Salisbury to Cheltenham Spa due 09:03

06:35 Salisbury to Cheltenham Spa due 09:03 will be started from Westbury.
It will no longer call at Salisbury and Warminster.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Is it known whether these frequent TransWilts cancellations are due to No Driver or No Guard/Conductor?

In my lengthy experience of hanging around Westbury waiting for a train home to Melksham, it's often - I'd go so far as to say usually - the driver that fails to turn up when a cancellation is announced, leaving the guard looking lost and forlorn.

That experience is backed up by "usually reliable sources" that report high levels of driver sickness at Westbury, which on top of (IMHO (in my humble opinion)) an apparently inadequate staffing level to maintain a service when things are significantly impacted has lead to cancellations that leave massive gaps in the already-thin service.   Comment is also made about rolling stock issues, but it's primarily that there are not enough drivers for when more than usual have called in sick.

This often also affects services south of Westbury on the Cardiff to Portsmouth and Weymouth lines, but not as bad as on the Transwilts which is usually the first to suffer cancellations.

14:16 Westbury to Swindon due 14:58 has been delayed at Westbury and is now 3 minutes late.
This is due to train crew being delayed.

We'll forgive 'em that one ...

09:35 Swindon to Westbury due 10:16 will be cancelled.
This is due to train crew being delayed by service disruption.

Now more replies in a year that scored by Brian Lara in his record innings (501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994) ... this thread will be "out" tomorrow and we'll start with a fresh innings for the new year.  Hoping to be out for a duck is perhaps too much - I wonder if we can avoid a century?

Welcome to 2023.

This thread has been a cancellation and amendment log for 2022 and I have started (sadly, already!) a new thread for 2023 at http://www.passenger.chat/27048 .  Please post 2023 news and comment there.

I am leaving this 2022 thread open - at least for a short while - for concluding summaries on 2022, if anyone wishes to add them.
