I wonder why they are slapping a 180 on a Hereford service. Huh

What is wrong with the Oxford services?

Because that Hereford service is very lightly-used in both directions.

These trains can get busy but the main reason for using a 180 is the very tight turnaround at Hereford.

1W02 1151 Paddington to Hereford arrives at 1457 and has to shunt before forming 1P66 1519 Hereford to Paddington. The 22 minutes is just too tight for an HST (High Speed Train)!

1P66 is a key peak train as it passes through Oxford at 1736 and any delay then delays the Cotswold Halts train (1731 from Oxford) and a host of CrossCountry and stopping services heading south.

How do you define busy? A very busy Adelante is the equivalent of a pretty quiet 125 - and these workings aren't busy in Cotswold Line terms, even for an Adelante.

And if it were all that busy coming off the Cotswold Line, it wouldn't be a lot of use as a fast evening peak service out of Oxford - as FGW (First Great Western) discovered very quickly in the morning peaks in December 06, after the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) geniuses decided that already heavily-loaded Cotswold Line trains could pick up most of the Oxford commuters as well.

Yes, the turnaround at Hereford is tight, but is achievable by an HST (High Speed Train) - the issue, as ever, is more to do with late running on the way from London causing trouble, by eating into the time allowed to shunt, assuming it even gets to Hereford - this train kept getting turned back at Ledbury earlier in the year.

And with the structure of the Cotswold Line timetable, just about any late-running service can muck up everything else. Especially the 17.21 ex-London, which was late off Oxford yet again yesterday, stuffing up both the following trains and two coming in the opposite direction. Of all the late afternoon/early evening trains, the halts one is the least likely to cause havoc.

Does anyone know when the EMT» (East Midlands Trains - about) HST (High Speed Train) will arrive?

And, even though I think I asked this before, how will an EMT HST replace 5 180s? Huh

I done some sums ( Grin ), and they don't add up!

The 180s are intended to double up when in service, the afternoon diagram that one of them does is just due to a lack of general availability of HSTs (High Speed Train).

There are some 50 HST sets diagrammed out of roughly 54 I think currently?

Really? I thought that Hull Trains' Vomiter clones where going to go to EMT» (East Midlands Trains - about) to join the rest of the Vomiter clones (this would free up an HST for FGW (First Great Western) etc.). Must be old news.

So where will NXEC get extra rolling stock?
