A capacity increase on the line between Newport/Cardiff and Ebbw Vale reached its concluding phase today, with a blockade from Wednesday 15/11/23 to Sunday 03/11/23.

As a result of this, Tuesday night's 2N32, the 22:37 Ebbw Vale to Cardiff, became the last passenger train signalled by Park Junction Signal Box. 153910 + 153312 according to RTT» (Real Time Trains - website).

The signal box was built in 1885 by McKenzie and Holland and extended in 1889. At one time it controlled the division of a six-track route into four double track routes.

On December 4th the Cardiff-Ebbw Vale passenger service is scheduled to restart with the route controlled from Cardiff ROC (Rail Operating Centre - a centralised location for railway signalling and train control operations for a specific route or region). A week later, the enhanced service starts with alternate trains to/from Cardiff/Newport (although the evening service remains hourly to Cardiff, with several trains reversing at Newport.

Extra information on train location should be shown on the various mapping sites hopefully?

For a few days, Park Junction Signal Box remained in the twilight of its operational life, seeing trains to and from Machen Quarry, plus a number of engineering trains involved in the line upgrade (many of which were from Westbury).

Final closure came after the last train on Wednesday November 29th.
