Thank you for your reply's,
was thinking more of the IET▸ passing straight through from Paddington to the east(other) side of london
Well if you wanted to link the West Country to Europe I guess that it shouldn't be too difficult to send an 80x round the North Downs line to Redhill and thence to Ashford for onward connections (which would need Eurostar to start stopping again, but anyway).
As for the North and South London Lines, I suspect they might be a little too curvy for 26m long carriages. East-West rail might work nicely though - Bristol to Milton Keynes via Oxford anyone?
Why the slow route via the North Downs?
From the
GWML▸ via Up and DN Populars' (the link from Acton Yard to the North London Line) round the North London Line to where in has a link onto
HS1▸ near Kings Cross at Incline. So you could have a South Wales and West Country trains non stop Reading - Paris
Fair enough.
Actually, I wonder, if the various bits of 25kV infill were done, could you perhaps have a Javelin from Paris to Bristol round the NLL seeing as it has
TVM▸ -430 signalling for HS1?
I cannot see departure stations for International train services expanding outside of the current 3 in the
UK▸ , and 2 of those are currently closed (Stratford is not likely to ever operate as and International station.
The only way it would be viable for trains from other locations in the UK to destinations in Europe would be for the UK to join the Schengen area making crossing from England to France the same as crossing the border of England Wales or England Scotland
Cannot see the UK being part of Schengen anytime soon.
