Later, there was a trespass incident outside Paddington.
This resulted in the cancellation of 1W37 18:52 London Paddington to Great Malvern.
Plus 1W39 19:52 London Paddington to Great Malvern left +68, arrived Worcester Foregate Street +72 and was cancelled thereafter.
In consequence, the 2E98 22:42 Great Malvern to Evesham only ran between Worcester Foregate Street and Worcester Shrub Hill.

One of my work colleagues is leaving after 22 years. There are a number of reasons why they have decided to move on. One contributing factor - not a show stopper in its own right but certainly came into their thinking - was the reliability of the GWR (Great Western Railway) service, especially between Worcester and Malvern.

Is this the local service between Worcester and Malvern (where West Midlands are no better) or GWR's increasing inability to operate beyond Shrub Hill?

It's GWR's increasing increasing inability to operate beyond Shrub Hill - we work in Oxford. She finds it hard to rely on the 07:13 service from Great Malvern in the mornings, and there's always that sinking feeling as her afternoon train sheds time as it progresses along through the north Cotswolds waiting for the inevitable announcement that it'll be terminated at Worcester.

There are many more significant factors behind her decision to move on but the GWR "service" was certainly a consideration.

That will become my own one-line question to Daryn McCombe 'live' on 3 October: why the heck does that keep happening?  Angry

Yesterday's issues at Evesham caused a lot of delays in the afternoon, and today we have

Cancellations to services between Swindon and Reading

which is creating more problems including the familiar contingency of terminating the 1350 Paddington to Great Malvern service at Worcester Shrub Hill. The 1453 Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street has just gone through Charlbury 28 minutes late, the 1523 Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street is 21 late at Oxford and the 1552 Paddington to Great Malvern has just left Reading 19 late.
