Think we have lost our respect for open flame, possibly making our respect of gas in the home less, still a lot of gas appliances sold, a slight go electric at times. you only touch a lit candle once! ( though if you lick your fingers, you can put the flame out)

So many things that we just accepted have become unfamiliar and are now regarded a a danger.  Slam door trains without central locking, for example.  And one I came across last week - high pavements where the step down from the curb can be considerable.  See them in a number of places - Bath, and Frome for example, and Melksham.   Some chap stepped off the pavement and fell a couple of weeks ago and is steaming mad about it.  Saying what a danger it is and how it must have caused many accidents in the past - and yet there is only one documented example we can find in 100 years of someone who came out of "The Bell" one dark evening during WWII▸ (World War 2 - 1939 to 1945).   Our recent incident was outside The Grapes ...

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Mine was the single engine version of the Vulcan !  I believe that there was also a Jetex model of the Gloster Meteor - how you ever got that to fly in a straight line ??

Today's Daily Telegraph  refers to "model steam train firm" both in the headline and in the intro - but has a photograph of a model traction engine.
