Alterations to services between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour

Due to urgent repairs to a bridge between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour all lines are blocked.
Train services running to and from these stations have been suspended. Portsmouth Harbour will not be served. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Customer Advice
Replacement road transport services are conveying passengers between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour via Portsmouth & Southsea in both directions until further notice. A replacement bus service will be in place every 30 minutes from 08:30 between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour, calling at Portsmouth & Southsea.
CrossCountry and South West Trains are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. Arrangements have been made for Great Western Railway rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.

Additional Information
During an inspection of the bridge between Portsmouth and Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour, an engineer has identified a structural fault which must be rectified urgently. As a result, no trains will be able to cross the bridge until the issue can be resolved. The fault is serious, and may take many hours to repair, although estimates are still preliminary at this point, and subject to revision.

Whilst any short term closure is regrettable, occasional situations like this are understandable, and the honesty of the estimates of when it will re-open are refreshing.   I'm remembering that the purpose of engineer's inspections is to ensure that hitherto unidentified problems are identified before they become a danger.

It is odd that they reckon Cross Country ticket acceptance will be of some benefit.  Unless they expect massive disruption all over the south as a result of this.
