"The railway is full of well-intentioned staff .......... just as it always has been. It is the directives from above, demanding the imposition of penalty fares and the rigid adherence to rules that is forcing the staff to be less flexible and consequently there is bound to be more conflict with the public."

Indeed so, Christian.  I'm might impressed by many of the staff - their strengths and fortitude. But they too are feeling the pressure of the conflict and I don't think morale is too good at times.

Thanks very much for that useful update, FremlinsMan - and a warm welcome to the Coffee Shop forum!  Smiley

May I also invite you to perhaps introduce yourself, in our introductions board?

Thanks,

Chris.  Smiley

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
