165114 has been a fixture on the North Downs line for over a month now. It has a bag over its coupler at the end with first class so needs to be kept on diagrams where it doesn't need to couple. While North Downs fits the bill, the use of 165s to Gatwick causes problems with luggage and it ends up on seats and in the doorways. I can't believe how long it is taking to sort out the coupler or swap it with one on a 166 that would be more appropriate for dedicating to North Downs line services.

This unit is non multiple at present as you state ..but remember just because the coupler is bagged over it doesnt necessarily actually mean the coupler is faulty

I agree but I think the only other time you usually see bagged couplers is when there is ice about.  So, is the coupler faulty or something else?

We don't get two coach units subbing for 166s on the North Downs Line at all now which is good.  (I know there is a booked two-coach diagram on weekdays starting with the first train from Gatwick and two on the stoppers on Saturdays.)  However, the use of 165s on trains to Gatwick has always been a nuisance and the continued use of 165 114 upsets the occasional traveller who expects to find a luggage rack (you can hear their comments to this effect as they board) and perhaps even puts them off.
