According to http://www.traintesting.com/Class150.htm it was a failed prototype, with Rolls Royce engines (later Perkins) and Self Changing Gears transmission....

One of its claims to fame is that it was used as the testbed for the Class 158 unit.

Was it not renamed a Class 154 when it was re-geared for 90 mph?

150001 and 002 are now virtually the same as each other, there are a few differences between these 2 and stroke 1 & 2 150's,most notably the shorter range as fuel tanks are smaller.
also got 150/1 front end but have got powered crew door and not slam doors.
central did a lot of work on them over the years to get the reliability better to try and lose the scud 1 and scud 2 nicknames the got.(named scud after the missile could always get there but not back)

i assume they have gone through the refurb programme same as rest of the LM (London Midland - recent franchise) fleet so condition should be ok
