Hi all,
So I booked some tickets for SWT (South West Trains) travel (thank god) but for collection still nominated to collect them from an FGW (First Great Western) self-service machine as there is no other way to get them now, post was not even offered.
Went to the FGW machine, out of order (shock). The only option I can see now is to buy a new full price ticket on the day of travel and forget about my advance fare.

Will the toc do anything about this? The fault was with FGW but the advance ticket was booked through the SWT web site. The SWT station dosn't have a machine yet capable of supplying self-service pre-booked tickets.

Thanks for any thoughts.

If you look on your email confirmation, there should be a number to contact if you have trouble getting hold of your tickets. You could try ringing this number tomorrow.

I also believe that some FGW (First Great Western) ticket offices can issue pre-booked tickets.

Your booking reference can be used at a Booking Office Window, subject to the Tribute system running. Mind when it's down the Self serve ticket machines are usally also down.

I always get my Pre-Booked Tickets from a Booking Office, IF there's a problem STAFF can often sort it out a Machine can't.

a situation i found my self in twice and never again! just dont do it!!! book in advance and have tickets posted or just buy at station, there is no back up if the system goes wrong and you try getting a refund on the tickets!!

A Situation I also found myself in at Frome one afternoon, Ticket office was closed, Ticket Machine out of order. Fortunately I had the e-mail conformation with me which showed I had paid for the tickets and what services they were for etc. The Train Manager accepted this and said I should be able to pick up the tickets from Westbury for my onward travel.

Whether SWT (South West Trains) would accept that as a ticket I don't know, But as far as i'm aware, you can collect your tickets from a ticket office or other ticket machines as long as you have your reference number, which the ticket machine retrieves from a central database somewhere.

if you present your booking ref at the ticket window, they will find and print your tickets.  If they can't do that then I would proceed as advised by the ticket office staff

give someone at the ticket desk your card you booked on, and ask if you can collect your tickets.

thats how it works in arriva territory anyway...

As railway companies are advertising the use of self service machines, I think it is up to them to get their act together.

Looking to replace people with machines i.e. Paddington, is acceptable according to FGW (First Great Western). Until something goes wrong.

You can get exactly the same deals at a ticket office as on-line and I will continue to use the ticket office, while I still have the choice.
