Taken from the South Wales Argus:-

Residents oppose rail container

A Public meeting is being held to discuss controversial plans to build a railway container in Ponthir. Residents will meet representatives from Network Rail at Ponthir Village Hall, Caerleon Road at 5pm on Wednesday April 15th.

Residents are against plans to build the container at the back of Station Road as they fear it will lower the value of their homes. They say the building, which will house a generator to power the railway track in the event of a power cut, will be noisy and will block the view of people using the public footpath, making the railway line dangerous to cross.

Network rail plans to build the unite, which will be around 10ft high and 40ft long, as part of a ^150m investment for re-signalling work in South Wales, to be completed by 2015.
