Digby & Sowton is also closest station for those of us in the North Devon area, to get to /from Exeter "International" airport by rail, albeit the final leg by pre-booked taxi.

Now if FGW^▸ (First Great Western) pushed for the next passing loop at Cranbrook ....... re-open station, shuttle etc would be possible.... anything not to have to use their "airport bus-link" from EXD^» (Exeter St Davids - next trains).

Im sure Pinhoe would be alot easier to get there, and cheaper as its  much shorter to the airport than from Digby.

And the passing at cranbrook would be down to SWT^▸ (South West Trains), and there wouldnt be a shuttle as SWT are running an hourly service that way from december.

The dynamic loop proposed for Cranbrook (similar to the Axminster loop) would allow an hourly SWT service to run alongside an hourly local service to Axminster (i.e. SWT on the hour & local service on the half hour)  At the moment this is still a Devon County Council ambition I believe and as the new town at Cranbrook appears to be on hold for the moment it may be some way off.

Railway sleepers, apparently. 

Commuters and train staff escape injury as service hits sleepers

Four people escaped injury when an early-morning train crashed into wooden sleepers left on a railway line at Exeter.
Investigations are underway and it is thought vandals may have put the sleepers on the line deliberately.
The sleepers had been left at Topsham Railway Station and were found some distance down the track.
Two passengers, the train driver and a conductor escaped unhurt when First Great Western^s first train of the day, the 5.44am heading for Exmouth from St David^s Station, hit the sleepers just before 6am.
The train stayed on the track but was damaged by the impact.
Train services along the single-track route were disrupted for three hours and a bus shuttle service was brought in to ferry passengers between Exeter and Exmouth.
