This is just to let you all know that the main drivers union have withdrawn their agreement for their members to work overtime on their rest days.

18th September 2007 - The EC has unanimously agreed, after hearing a report from FGW (First Great Western) Company Council, NOT  to extend the Rest Day Working Agreement with FGW past the present agreement expiry date of 29th September 2007.


This could result in both High Speed and Local/LTV (London [and] Thames Valley) services being left without drivers. Whether or not Asle&f staff defy the union and continue to work remains to be seen.

Oh and by the way I'm in the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers)!

At her presentation at the PF (Penalty Fare) meeting last week in Bristol AF indicated that 25 further guards and 50 drivers would be through training and into service in the next 6 - 12 months and additional qualified drivers were being recruited. I bet they didnt factor in this non-renewal of the drivers agreement into the Recovery programme that AF presented at the meeting.

As if FGW (First Great Western) dont already have a problem with lack of train crew to run/man their trains when their is staff sickness.

Not True!! ASLEF» (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen - about) THE train drivers union is split into districts as the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) know
Each district will have different agreements...... Rest Day work should not be needed is full establishment is maintained.......
Rest Day work has been sanctioned until December 29th 2007 in the West Cool

Scaremongering??   Rest Day work on a long term basis deprives someone else of a job!!
