Just received an email from FGW (First Great Western) re 2 for 1 offers in May, headed

"2FOR1 offers and book ahead for great deals on train tickets"

http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Content.aspx?id=47

Thought I was onto a good thing, we could visit elderley Aunt in Devon for price of one rail ticket.

Turns out offer is for various attractions in London, Bath, Bristol and Devon.

All it is you have to download vouchers for special deals to visit the selected  attractions, it's not 2 for 1 rail travel.

Hence posting in Smoke and Mirrors.

I received a load of coupons for this in the post yesterday.  The letter said something about me having children - do they know something that I don't?!  Shocked

The terms say "Then, on arrival, simply present a completed voucher along with your valid train ticket to London."  I've added the bold - would the 2 for 1 become invalid because the gate at PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) has decided to gobble up your ticket?

Your return ticket would be sufficient.  You just need to show you have travelled by train.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
