From the FGW^▸ (First Great Western) Service incidents tonight (28/09/2007) ;-

19:15 London Paddington to Swansea due 22:18
This train has been revised. This train will run short formed with 7 carriages.
At Reading and Swindon this service will only stop to pick up passengers

Is this a sign of things to come with Farce Great Westerns BRILLIANT solution to overcome the problems of delays by removing the buffet cars to cut down point to point timings.

Stikes me this solution is starting to go pear shaped already and the HST^▸ (High Speed Train) refurbishment program is not yet complete.

And HOW are they going to enforce it, Penalty Fares ??

You cant travel on this service today sir, its only stopping at Reading to pick up passengers, Thats ASKING for trouble from the regulars.

7 cars on a london to swansea service!  i guess the buffet car is not on this set? 

i have expressed my opinion widely on the removal of the buffet car from the current 2 +8 trains, and i fully intend to complain to passenger focus every time my london - swansea low density set is replzced for some reason with a 2+7  HD set!

But what use would your complaint to PF^▸ (Penalty Fare) do, I'll tell you in a word NOTHING.

There is NO sets without buffets yet, it was probabally missing a TSO^▸ (The Stationary Office (now OPSI))

The website showed this incorrectly.
The 19:15 Swansea ran as advertised.
It was missing Standard Coach C.

The idea of restricting passengers to Reading and Swindon is actually a very sensible one given the situation. It ensures passengers for further west, who will otherwise have up to an hour to wait for their next service, can board. Passengers for Swindon and Reading will only half a quarter hour to wait. If this wasn't done, the train could be filled with short distance commuters, and the train runs with plenty of space after Swindon whilst passengers for Wales still sit at Paddington.

So faced with a unit running one coach short, I think FGW^▸ (First Great Western) adopted a sensible and pragmatic approach to ensure that all it's passengers faced the minimum inconvenience. Why the policy wasn't actually adopted in the end is another matter - maybe the loadings didn't warrant it.

It will have been. They woulnd't cancel it without a buffet. I've been on a 2+7 (1600 from Ply 1700 from Exeter) that was WEDGED at NTA^» (Newton Abbott - next trains) as it was missing a standard class.

It was a sensible decision when you think about it, there are a few sets running around with a TSO^▸ (The Stationary Office (now OPSI)) missing and there are some sets with a first class coach thats de-classified in the middle of the train!
