Was at Penzance today 17th Sept 10, and heard rumours of a Loco Hauled Train.

Not sure what was on but the 10.00 Penzance-Padd HST (High Speed Train) was 9+2 with an extra Standard class carriage, then there WAS an Additional departure at 10.21 which was the Sleeper Loco from last night's Down Sleeper, pulling 5 Sleeper Day Cars. Not Sure where that train was heading but I did see it along the Sea wall of Mount's Bay, and the train was carrying Passengers.

The other Real train will be tonight's Up Sleeper.

Apparently a group booking of 200+ people at Bodmin, the second train was a relief of the other one and was meant to terminate at Plymouth.  Only 16 late through Dawlish, considering it's always at least 5 to 10 min late!!

10:00 Penzance - Paddington was made 2+9 as it had a big group booking on it.

The 10:21 you speak of did Penzance - Plymouth Smiley

Be nice to be able to have 2+9 more often.

Spotted that working into PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) today. Thought it was weird that there was a coach X after coach F, and that it was a lot longer than the norm. (Had to walk further to the TGS!)

Chances are that as it was only added on for the group booking, it will probably get taken off again at Laira tonight, but don't know for definite Smiley

The extra coach is still in the set. Went up again this morning on either 0759 or 0845, can't remember which

This thread drifted into a discussion on the feasability of converting spare MKIII Buffets into seated coaches. I've split subsequent posts into a new topic which can be found here:
