Had one of those experinces today where you look out of  a train window - something passes and you can't work out what it is because it doesnt match anything you are expecting.

Was relieved to see that it was the Royal Train

William Huskisson MP was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Wonder if they were even on it?  They'd have travelled overnight (racing the sleeper) and I don't know when their "day" in Cornwall finished.

As an aside I wonder what the powers that be would have done if the Royal Train had been caught up in yesterday's problems around Castle Cary or tonight's problems in the Thames Valley.

I imagine Network Rail do their damnedest to ensure the Royal Train always gets through. Signallers are made aware that the royal train is in their neck of the woods as it carries a unique headcode. 1X-- I believe. Can't be seen to unnecessarily delay Brenda. One would not be amused.  Wink

Perhaps her Maj should take more journeys on normal passenger workings to get a flavour of what her subjects have to often put up with.

She has slummed it on occasions:

Link to Reuters article.

Although I believe the proles were turfed out of this particular 1st Class section of a FCC train!

Bet that train was well scrubbed and polished the night before though with no Pumpkin coffee cups and upper crust wrappers to be found under any of the seats in 1st.

Doesn't look too pleased to be there though. Wonder if the PR person who suggested One should travel to Sandringham by public transport rather than by helicopter still works at the palace.

I rather thought Her Majesty was somewhat less than chuffed to find herself sitting next to Fred Goodwin ...  Roll Eyes

Nah - she just got fed up with telling gags in a futile attempt to make Steve Davis smile. ;-)
