From the BTP (British Transport Police) press release:

Quote
BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE APPEAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT RAIL VICTIM^S LAST KNOWN MOVEMENTS ^ CARDIFF

British Transport Police (BTP) officers investigating the death of a man on the railway line at Marshfield, Cardiff, on Tuesday 30 August are appealing for information regarding his whereabouts in the days and hours leading up to his death.

Anthony Roy Johnson, aged 59, of Splott, Cardiff, was found dead on the railway line near to Marshfield Road shortly before 7am on August 30.

The driver of a passing freight train reported seeing a body on the railway line at the location.

BTP officers and paramedics attended and Mr Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries consistent with having been hit by a train.

BTP officers are currently treating the death as unexplained as it remains unclear at this stage which train struck Mr Johnson and at what time.

However, officers do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances leading up to Mr Johnson^s death and officers have today released a photograph in the hope of gaining information which will help piece together the events leading up to his death.

Detective Inspector Mark Cleland, of BTP, said: ^m hoping to jog people^s memories so that we can establish where Mr Johnson went and who he may have spent time with. We know that he left his home address in Splott, Cardiff on Saturday 27 August and his body was found on the railway line close to the Port 'O' Call public house in Marshfield Road shortly before 7am on Tuesday 30 August. What remains unclear at this stage is where he was between those dates.

^m appealing for any information about his whereabouts, movements, any friends he may have stayed with or anyone traveling through the Marshfield area in the early hours of Tuesday 30 August who may have seen him. Tony was a much loved member of the community in Splott and is sadly missed by friends, family and colleagues who worked with.^

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number 56 of 30/08/2011.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
