The re-opening of Corsham Station

Corsham Station closed in the Beeching Era - but it was one closure too far. It nearly re-opened just a few years ago - finance approved, planning approved .... but the rail industry then withdrew the only trains that could have stopped at the new station and the plans went 'on hold'.

With selective door opening now being installed on trains travelling on the line, there's a fresh opportunity for a station at Corsham (the change means that the expense of a full length platform could be spared), and there are many prominent local supporters as Corsham is growing significantly as a work base in its own right, and a commuter town for Chippenham, Swindon, Bath and Bristol
