Quote
Speaking to the Western Daily Press while on board the crowded train, MTLS founder Tony Ambrose said: "We've got the publicity we wanted and the support and our aim now is to get First Great Western stripped of the franchise.

"We have met with (FGW regional manager) Andrew Griffiths and he has apologised about the standard of service but all FGW does is make promises, which they have not delivered over the past 14 months.

"This is no longer a service for the people as mothers with children, disabled people and the elderly have trouble getting onto crowded services, while FGW made £250 million in profit last year."

Mr Andrews said he believed the group was close to making Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly reconsider the franchise.

"She needs to know FGW has spawned a monster," he said. "Good public transport is vital for a working economy, we are not getting that and the West will suffer."

Hmmm interesting quote there from one MTLS supporter...one that the headline writers would just love.

I wonder if AG told MTLS that it will be better by the spring!  Wink

Peter Andrews is an MTLS spokesman, so I guess being quotable is part of his brief...

Yet again I pick up on this comment, and note he has changed his closing script!

FGW have made nothing but promises saying "it will be better next timetable change" etc.

They need to get a grip and start to repair the catastrophic damage they have caused, starting with Bristol commuters and Thames Valley commuters.

"It will be better next Spring" - yeah right, we weren't born yesterday. Do FGW really think we believe anything they say anymore?

To be fair though, its not like they aren't doing stuff - HST refurb, unit refurb.

Perhaps some training is needed on how to open/close HST doors.  Cheesy

Yes, I am surprised they have not tried banning HSTs because they are slam door!

Remember, FGW talk about fleet problems, but they operate the biggest (by far) HST fleet, so in theory operate the best InterCity fleet (assuming HSTs are the best non electrified InterCity stock in the UK, and possibly the best full stop)!

Obviously, it depends on your opinions. I for one, do not like HSTs on local/stopping/commuter services, especially with short platforms!

IMHO, HSTs are the best InterCity stock in the UK. Pendalinos would come near top if they had window (that you can look out of)/seats aligned near windows, and had less 1st class and more 2nd class!

Virgin* Voyagers- at the bottom! Evil trains.

*It doesn't matter what TOC operates them, they will always be for me- Virgin Voyagers! It will take until the end of the Arriva XC franchise for them to be completely rebranded!

Name any other TOC who have generated this level of vitriol.

In safety you refer to the 'Bird triangle' (Google the term) and this sort of response to FLW performance must fit that profile.

I do.  I believe that First Great Western are indeed transforming travel.
