Obviously not thrilled at the broken down train blocking the line, but delighted to read that customers are able to use Faresaver buses - a good example of companies working together at times of disruption - THANK YOU to First and Faresaver for setting this arrangement up.

The train, the 10:35 from Paddington to Plymouth - diverted via Swindon due to Newbury works - came to a stand just after Chippenham shortly before 12 noon.  Two hours later it has just started moving back towards Chippenham as 5C78.  I am not sure what happened to the passengers.  I doubt it was really terminated at Swindon as it departed, as normal, as 1C78 on time.

10:35 London Paddington to Plymouth due 14:28

10:35 London Paddington to Plymouth due 14:28 was terminated at Swindon.

It will no longer call at Westbury, Castle Cary, Taunton, Tiverton Parkway, Exeter St Davids, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Plymouth.

This is due to a fault on this train.

Looks like they were returned to Chippenham where the 12:30 Paddington to Penzance called additionally to pick them up.

And then the 1230 ex Paddington arrived Penzance 130L due to complete failure approaching St Erth necessitating the Sleeper 57 to go from Penzance to assist

Sadly, today the X31 is NOT offered with the line between Chippenham and Bath closed.   It's only the bus service that runs .... between Chippenham and Bath!!

It might be pertinent that First Bus and GWR (Great Western Railway) are both part of First Group, which probably make inter-company co-operation easier.

It might also be pertinent that the problem was relatively short lived, with departures from CPM» (Chippenham - next trains) to BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) being cancelled or diverted only between 0815 and 1015. In the reverse direction only the 0930 ex-Bristol was cancelled, presumably through lack of a train at BRI to operate it. Perhaps there was insufficient time to organise something with Faresaver, or perhaps nobody bothered, or perhaps (?) GWR got First to run a replacement bus service between Bath & Chippenham?
