... Reading avoider and.... MELKSHAM!

Although we didn't stop...

It's still running 104 late.

Some prat threw a brick at the driving cab, shattered the window, we pulled into Newbury Racecourse, reversed and set off via Didcot and Swindon.

Good wau to fix it.
Avoid the thing that is broken in the first place. Downside is a swapped around HST set to confuse people.
Still will be broken in the morning though, unless they can fix it at Long Rock.

More likely set down only - the pick up will be cancelled as the 18.05 was running on time!!

All sympathy to the driver involved in this incidence it must be frightening to get a brick through your cab window. We had a similar incident at Taplow a few years back unfortunately they didn't catch the culprit.

All credit to FGW getting the train to Penzance  it would have been easy to terminate it at Newbury.

Many years ago in BR days I was an on an HST that hit an obstrution on the line near Marshfield and ruptured the front engine's fuel tank! We reversed on the Maindee curve at Newport.

Also pity they didn't reverse the HST set involved in the Southall crash at Llandore to get working AWS in the front cab.

Was that on a Turbo? Reason i ask is, a few years ago i remember seeing a turbo pulling into Paddington with a smashed screen.

Screen would have been changed at Long rock, it's been done down there before.

Steve 44 asked.

No it was an HST at pretty well full speed the driver so so shaken up he had to be relieved.
