More than 1,000 police officers are being drafted in to ensure the FA Cup final passes off peacefully (link below.)

Thousands of football fans will descend on London later to see Portsmouth take on Cardiff at Wembley.

Both clubs have sold their allocation of 25,000 tickets and more fans are expected to head to the capital to soak up the atmosphere in bars and pubs.

The match comes three days after Rangers fans and police in Manchester clashed following the Uefa Cup final.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were working with the British Transport Police (BTP) to ensure troublemakers did not spoil the FA Cup final.

A total of 1,200 officers would be on duty to manage crowds and BTP officers would be travelling on trains to London from Cardiff and Portsmouth, as well as patrolling the main rail and underground stations, he said.

Police are advising supporters to use public transport to get to Wembley and warned them they could be searched at the stadium's turnstiles.

It would be fair to say that I am not displeased with the result....

And whilst I didn't get the result I wanted, we all had a grand day out, and both sets of fans really enjoyed the occasion.
